Itinerary

Day 1: Bagan – Pakkoku – Myaing (-/L/D)

bagan 01

Your guide will come and meet you at your hotel in Bagan around 8am and take about 45 mins drive from Bagan to Pakokku to explore the local market. From here we continue for 1 hour to the unique community lodge in Myaing to enjoy the authentic experience of the country. Upon arrival we take the chance to check-in and freshen up and have lunch at the lodge prepared by one of the participating villages.

After that lunch is free for exploring the local area or relaxing and enjoying the view. Around 3pm we take to bicycles and head out to meet some of the villagers in their homes. We learn about their community development plans and visit a Thanakha farm whereby we learn about this traditional make-up.

From here we visit a second village to learn about traditional ways of life, meet some of the villagers and have the opportunity to sample some local green tea and snacks. The locals here haven’t had much contact with the tourists like the other areas of the country so it is a good opportunity for you to experience the real local life. Interact with the locals and practice your Burmese!

In the evening, you will have a chance to plant a tree near the community lodge to help make the dry zone a little greener. Dinner at the lodge is followed by a local performance where you may learn some traditional Burmese dance.

Accommodation is very basic, with twin bedrooms with comfortable mattresses, blankets and mosquito nets. Shared bathrooms are available in the adjacent building and there is no electricity during the night time. Pictures available here

Day 2:  Myaing – Mandalay (B/-/-)

mandalay 02Start the day early morning at 7am and cycle to a nearby village where we enjoy a simple breakfast at a local house. We visit a local monestary (depending upon timing) and visit the 4th community to learn about traditional weaving and agricultural practices. Before departure we have time for a shower at the lodge before leaving to either Bagan or Mandalay depending upon your itinerary.
