Day 1: Arrival Yangon - Pyay

Upon arrival in Yangon your car and guide will greet you at the airport. The morning is free for sightseeing or shopping. Around noon you will board the ’71 up’ train to Pyay from the Yangon train station. The journey takes around 5-6 hours and you will enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Burmese countryside. There will be several vendors selling snacks, drinks and tea. Disembark at Pyay and continue by car the final hour to your hotel.

Day 2: Pyay

Fuel up with breakfast before setting off on your first day of riding. Starting from the hotel, bike 12 miles to Paung Ta Le to explore the lively morning market. The market is an important part of Pyay life featuring lively. Peruse the stalls and meet the local vendors. Stop for a cup of tea to complete your Burmese morning.

Next, stop at Payama, one of four stupas that once sat at the corners of the old Sri Khetra city. Bronze statues of musical troops were excavated at this site. Continue biking to Mhaw Zar and explore Sri Khetra archeological museum.

Visit Baw Baw Gyi Paya, the oldest stupa in the area stupa, Lay Myat Nar temple and Ba Yin Ma cemetery and Payagyi, another corner stupa. Next, a visit to the famous Sal Tree, the tree under which Buddha was born, will leave you feeling inspired. You’ll return to the hotel for lunch and a break from the mid day heat.

This afternoon, cross the Irrawaddy River to visit Shwe Bon Thar Muni Paya. According to legend, the Shwe Bon Thar Muni Buddha image was one of three replicas of the Maha Myat Muni Buddha image.
Return back to Pyay and climb up to Shwesandaw Paya to enjoy sunset.

Day 3: Pyay – Magway

After breakfast, you will depart by car and for Magway.

Your biking tour will begin at Koe Pin Junction. You will travel 60 km on flat flat roads with limited traffic. Stop at some of the many villages along the way and get to know the friendly locals.
A lunch box will be served on the way, as well as some local soft drinks and fresh fruits.

When you arrive at the main street near Thit Yar Kaut Village, you will be transfer the final 26 km to Magaway by car.

Relax in Magway or explore the town. Take a trip across the Irrawaddy to Na Ka Pwe Taung, an unusual pool of bubbling mud with a nearby temple.

Day 4: Magway – Mt. Popa

Wake up early this morning and fuel up for a challenging ride to Mount Popa (90km).

As you bike through this arid region, notice the toddy palm fileds. These trees play an important role in Myanmar life. They are used as building material, for houshold items, as medicine and tapped for thier juices. You will stop to observe the process of making toddy juice and sugar.

A lunch box will be served on the way, along with local soft drinks and fresh fruits.

This afternoon you’ll reach Mount Popa Mountain Resort, your hotel for this evening. Sitting atop a volcanic peal, you will enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding plains. Cool off in the swimming pool or relax with a cup of tea and contemplate the days adventures.

Dinner this evening is at the resort.

Day 5: Mt. Popa – Bagan

After checking out of your hotel, and climb to the top of the Mount Popa, important to Myanmar culture, religion and history. Its shrine is dedicated to the worship of the 37 Nats, ancient Burmese animist spirits. Learn about nats and nat worship from your local guide and enjoy the spectacular views.

At the base, hop on your bike the journey to Bagan (50km). The route begins with a downhill coast, leveling out to flat roads through toddy palm farms and small villages. You will stop at a local village and lunch in a toddy farmer’s hut. After lunch, you’ll learn how they collect the sap from the toddy trees and process it into molasses, alcohol and other goods. As you approach Bagan, you will begin to see the ancient temple tops in the distance.

Day 6: Bagan Sightseeing

Today will be spent on a leisurely biking tour of Bagan’s villages, markets and temples. Visit to the colorful, vibrant Nyaung Oo Market where locals come to buy and sell fresh produce and other goods. Learn of Bagan’s rich history at the golden stupa of Shwezigon Pagoda. Continue to Ananda Temple, one of Bagan’s most stunning temples. This temple houses two unique Buddha images whose expressions seem to change depending on the distance from which the statue is viewed.

This afternoon, visit to a traditional lacquer ware workshop and observe the production of one of Myanmar’s best-known handicrafts. Continue biking through the Bagan plains and arrive at an elevated temple to watch the sun set.

Day 7: Bike to Myitche – Pakkoku – boat back to Bagan

This morning you and your guide will bike to the jetty for a short ferry ride to the western banks of the river.

Back on your bike, you will cycle to Myitche, a typical Irrawaddy River village. Stop by the morning market, a huge, colorful market selling fresh goods and handicrafts. Taste some of the many delicious local treats. Afterwards, you’ll visit a small village to watch locals weave housewares from rattan.

(Note: due to the nature of this day we will not have a support car with us today. A motorbike will be accompanying the group with drinks and snacks as well as to take care of any emergency situations.)

Next, you will begin the journey to Pakkoku, a 40 kilometer shady, flat ride with limited motorists. You will cycle past fields of tobacco, cotton, chili and peanuts. During harvest seasons, you will have the opportunity to stop and visit with farmers as the work the fields.

We’ll arrive in Pakkoku at midday. Pakkoku is a thriving market town and famous throughout the country for making the best ‘slippers’. You will visit a slipper workshop to see how these velvet sandals are made.
Take time to pedal around the town and stop to have a bite of lunch.

This afternoon,take a relaxing, private boat cruise down the Irrawaddy River (approximately 2 hours).

Day 8: Bagan Departure

This morning is at leisure before transferring to the Nyaung Oo Airport for your onward flight.
